The Duncan family has owned the Diamond Tail Ranch since 1979 when we began raising cattle. The mountain winters, high production inputs and lack of market control soon forced a change. In 1986, Mike Duncan, the family's managing partner, introduced Buffalo to the ranch. The advantages soon became clear and a switch was made to all buffalo cows.

Our breeding herd is located in a large mountain valley of Northern Colorado, 45 miles southwest of Laramie, Wyoming. The herd size will soon reach over 1000 mother cows and their calves.

We added a growing and finishing lot to our operation in 1997. Located 10 miles east of Brush, Colorado, the Diamond Tail Pinneo Ranch has a capacity to grow more than 2000 calves.

Our mountain ranch manager, Scott Butcher, is in charge of our breeding herd and mountain hay production. Scott has many years experience with bison, including handling, nutrition and health.

Gordon Karney is our plains ranch manager. He manages our farming operations, our winter backgrounding program and summers over 1000 buffalo yearlings on grass.

The Diamond Tail Ranch produces and offers, for sale, top-quality heifer calves and yearling heifers, an outstanding selection of breeding bulls and feeder and finished meat bulls. We also maintain an nice selection of hides, large mounted heads and bleached skulls. We are continually in the market for bull calves and yearling bulls

We are a vertically integrated operation that places strong emphasis on producing the kind of livestock that our customers tell us they want. Our goal is to sell animals that will return a fair profit to our customers and keep all of us in business.
